TIM SACCENTI.
“Can you get a soul out of the machine?” Tim Saccenti’s fascination with the technological and machine aspect of the camera guides his cutting edge experiments with 130 year old printmaking traditions. Merging old school photographic art with experimental processes Saccenti creates novel portraiture that captures his subjects in ways that are uniquely personal, electric and otherworldly.
Saccenti photographs musicians who defy traditional portraiture, the people behind electronic music. Saccenti works as they do, through machines, to produce arresting compositions through technological experimentation and innovation. In essence the photographer and musician speak the same language, using experiments and alchemy to discover something more than human, a new kind of cyborg that packs an emotional punch.
Rooted in abstract expressionism, Saccenti uncovers a photographic analogue to these musicians’ internal worlds. For Saccenti the music has a color palette. And for every tenth failed experiment, he coaxes delicate systems to work together, modern and ancient tech together, to discover one new paintbrush, and glimpse into someone else’s life.
